Jacob Woods and Jasper Hughes were apprentices to one of America's greatest 19th century silversmiths William Gale in the 1820s.
Formed Gale, Wood & Hughes 1833 and Wood & Hughes 1845. W & H displayed in Museum of the City of New York, the firm especially known for fine finish detail, as illustrated on this tea service. Set has never been monogrammed. This c1885 Wood and Hughes hand decorated teapot about 8 inches.Handle to spout and 7 tall set weighs 36 standard ounces. Hallmarked as shown, this W&H mark used from 1871. The set appears little / never used. Retains original hand carved detail.
