Wood & Hughes Silver Tea Set 1868 MEDALLION
WOOD & HUGHES SILVER TEA SET 1868 CLASSICAL MEDALLION This is a beautifully designed and crafted c1868 Wood & Hughes silver Classical Medallion tea service. In 1833 William Gale joined with his two best apprentices Jacob Wood and Jasper Hughes. Became Wood & Hughes 1845.
Rainwater notes the firm was known for finish work, page 228. Examples in Museum of the City of New York, Museum Fine Art RISD and Yale University, among many others. This 1868 Wood and Hughes Medallion teapot is 11 inches tall and 11 handle to. Spout and the complete service weighs 65 1/2 standard ounces.
Period engraved family name BLACK opposite December 28, 1868 for the original owner. Interior clean as if little used. Retains original hand carved detail. A single shallow bump, left of creamer medallion.
