Circa 1960's set of Sterling Silver Coffee Set. THE DIAMOND, Reed & Barton. Reed & Bartons The Diamond, a sterling silver coffee set was designed in 1958 by Gio Ponti and John Axel Prip. The angular waistlines, beautifully faceted handles, and attenuated finials on these pieces mark them as sophisticated products of High Postwar Modernism. Each one of these pieces feels very good in the hand, with the generous amount of solid silver used in the manufacture of each vessel, as well as to the exacting craftsmanship throughout.

The precision with which the hinged cover on the tea pot opens and closes is most impressive. The elegant forms, polished reflective bodies, pointed finials and multifaceted handles create objects of beauty. The service is in very good vintage/used condition. Some scratches and mild dents as normal for the age and use.

This lovely solid sterling silver service is marked underneath,'REED & BARTON/STERLING/440 and the complete set comprises these pieces. 1 Coffee Pot w/ hinged lid & woven blond rattan-wrapped handle. 11 1/2"h including the 1 1/2" long finial. 1 Covered sugar w/ removable lid: 4 1/2"h including the 1 1/2" long finial. 1 Open creamer marked Reed & Barton, Sterling 440,'The Diamond': 5h. Coffee Pot: 1lb15.1oz, or 882 grams. Covered Sugar: 10.3oz, or 294 grams. Creamer: 8.7oz, or 250 grams. Total weight: 50.1oz or 1,426 grams.
