Sterling silver Victorian 3 piece tea service, with an ebony handle to the teapot. It is hallmarked with a Chester mark (three wheat sheaves and a sword) with a date letter for 1897. There is a maker's mark too, which appears likely to be F.

W, possibly Frederick Wich or Wick, please see this info link. The hallmarks appear on each piece, but due to over polishing is very faint on the milk jug. This antique set comprises of one tea pot, one sugar bowl and one milk jug.

It is in very good overall condition, clean, tidy, with no wobbles or evident weaknesses. It is a fairly typical late Victorian silver tea set made to hark back to the'Georgian' style of design which was popular at the time.

Please look carefully at the pictures where I have tried to show the condition of the tea set. I have included close ups of the hallmarks and a couple of pictures with a comparison modern day tea/coffee mug to give an idea of scale. There are some inevitable reflections on the tea set in the photos, mostly from the roof beams - these are not marks, tarnish, stains or dents on the set itself.

The tea set in total weighs: 420 grams. Tea pot 230mm wide x 124mm tall.

Sugar bowl 148mm wide x 84mm tall. Milk jug 110mm wide x 74mm tall. This set belonged to my Great Aunt who to my knowledge used it only for decorative purposes, never for serving tea!

There is no evidence of any tea staining in the pot. I believe she inherited it from relatives from Ellesmere Port, which might account perhaps for the Chester hallmark? Aunty was a lifelong supporter of the Girl Guides, so a donation from this sale will go to her local Guiding Association. The tea set will be carefully wrapped with protective bubble wrap and boxed securely for posting.
