The business was based in Furnival Works, Sheffield. They were particularly well regarded for making high quality bowls, candelabrums, mugs, napkin rings, tea sets and strainers.
This teaset is a fine example that demonstrates the high quailty of their workmanship. This particular set was produced for Dimmer & Sons Ltd of Southsea, Hampshire and all pieces are imprinted with their namesake on the base and the production number -'7434' and the letter'T'. Dimmers & Sons Ltd originally had three locations, Southsea, Liverpool and Cheltenham. During the early 1900s, the founder of the business gave one shop to each of his sons.
One of these later became H. The Liverpool shop has long since disappeared. The Southsea shop closed its doors for the last time in the early 1990s. The Cheltenham shop is very much alive under the name of Martin & Co, George Dimmer changed the name in 1890.
The tall teapot measures 8.5" (22cm) in height x 4.5" (11cm) in width and weighs 540 gms. The small teapot measures 6.5" (17cm) in height x 5.5" (14cm) in width and weighs 595 gms.
The beaker measures 3.5" (9cm) in height x 3" (8cm) in width and weighs 150 gms. The two handled pot measures 3.5" (9cm) in height x 3.5" (9cm) in width and weighs 235 gms. Total weight - 1.520 Kgs. The condition is good with no significant scratches or markings to any areas of the pieces. The original cloth tea strainer is inside the tall teapot and remains in remarakbly good condition.There is some very slight age wear to the inside of the teapots, around the hinge area and there is some wear to the strainer.
