KENNARD & JENKS STERLING TEA KETTLE & STAND 1875 HAND DECORATED - 65 OZ. A fine and very rare c1875 Kennard & Jenks sterling kettle & stand. Lewis Jenks was a renowned Boston designer who began his own firm in 1872. Joined by Kennard in 1875. The only Boston firm to create Japanesque and aesthetic silver, which was highly sought.
After by New York and Boston retailers. Jenks was hired by Gorham in 1879. Hence the resemblance of this set to the finest Gorham tea ware of the period. Gorham then acquired the entire shop the year after.
Slender over with all over hand carved leaf and floral on satin, set within. Delicately engraved floating flower and vine frame. Cover with architectural finial, original, atop conforming floral surround. Smooth surface swing handle rising from twin leaf rolled vine terminal.
Stand retains both chained securing pins, and the original. Scrolling leaf set within twisted rop decorative band to center. Atop angular leg block feet.This c1875 hand decorated Kennard & Jenks kettle and stand is 14 inches. And the complete set 65 standard ounces. In very fine condition, interior clean as if little if ever used. Rich sterling patina, original detail. Retains both chained securing pins.
And the original chain cover burner. Remnants of old lacquer, most removed.
