Lewis Jenks was a renowned Boston designer. He began his own firm in 1872.
Joined by Kennard in 1875. They were the only working Boston silver shop to create Japanesque and aesthetic silver, which was highly sought after by New York and Boston retailers. Jenks was hired by Gorham in 1879. Hence the resemblance of this set to the finest Gorham tea ware of the period.
Gorham then acquired the entire shop the year after. Slender over with all over hand carved leaf and floral on satin, set within delicately engraved floating flower and vine frame.
Cover retains he original architectural finial atop conforming floral surround. Smooth surface angular handles, provide brilliant contrast to the heavily chased floral which surround.This c1875 Kennard & Jenks teapot 9 1/2 inches the set 46 standard ounces. The teapot interior clean as if little if ever used.
