JULIUS HERZ German 800 Silver TROMPE L'OEIL Presentation TEA SET on TRAY
A novelty trompe l'oeil five piece German 800 silver'quilted' tea set by Julius Herz with applied fish net wire, ruffled edges and wire bound twig handles. The set is composed of a tea pot with pull off lid and wood finial 6" tall, a sugar bowl 2" tall and 3" in diameter, sugar tongs 4" long, creamer 2 1/8" tall and triangular presentation tray 9" by 8 1/4. The tray is inscribed Ehrenpreis der Freifan von Knoop, Wiesbaden, Mai 1900. All pieces are marked with the maker, 800, half moon and crown and city mark. Total weight 27.15 troy oz.
Julius Herz was born in 1819 and worked as a silver and goldsmith in Hesse-Nassau. Silverperfect under the trade name Britannia was established in 1979.
