HISTORIC c1848 J. C. MOORE PRE-TIFFANY COIN SILVER FIGURAL WHIPPET TOPPED TEA SET

  

Moore figural whippet topped floral repousse coin silver three piece tea set retailed by Ball, Tompkins and Black(New York) in the late 1840's. It was shortly after this that Moore entered into a private contract with Tiffany and Co.

To design and produce all of their flatware and holloware. He continued in the role of director at Tiffany for several years. The tea set is in very good condition with modest wear. One tiny unnoticeable ding on the side of the pot which is only mentioned for accuracy.

Sugar bowl and creamer are dent free. All of the silver is bright and clean with no stains or pitting. The lid hinge and handle are dead tight to the tea pot. The teapot measures 10 1/2" long(back of handle to tip of spout) x 5" wide x 8 height(to top of whippet's head) and weighs 776.6 grams.

The sugar bowl is 9" long(back of handle to back of other handle) x 4" wide x 7 height(to top of whippet's head) and weighs 775.5 grams. Both are stamped on the base Ball, Tompkins and Black, New York along with Moore's J. The cream pitcher is 6 height and weighs 298.4 grams.

Total weight of the set is 1850.5 grams. All three pieces are engraved on the front Russell Weston to Emma Weston 1852. The pot was passed down through the family over the years with further dedications from Emma's daughter Elizabeth engraved on the underside of the base. An amazing example of American silver history.
