Harvey Lewis Silver Tea Set c1815 Federal Winterthur Museum
HARVEY LEWIS SILVER TEA SET c1815 FEDERAL - WEINTERTHUR, YALE ART GALLERY. A fine and rare c1815 Harvey Lewis silver Federal tea service. Son of a carpenter Lewis apprenticed under Joseph Lownes c1800. His greatest work the spread wing sphinx footed ink stand now displayed in the Yale U. Works in the Winterthur, Philadelphia Historical Society and other museum collections. In classic rectangular form with out-curved corners and raised panel center. Cover retains the original flaming lotus finial, quite unique.
Rolled thumb crown tapering panel handle. Each piece hallmarked H Lewis. This c1815 American silver Federal teapot is 11 inches handle to spout. And the t weighs 51 standard ounces. Interior clean as if little used.
