Gorham Plymouth coffee & tea service/set 4 pieces 1916/17 sterling silver B mono

Offered for sale by Caspars Place is a 4-piece sterling silver coffee and tea service in. A holloware pattern introduced in 1911 by. The set includes a coffee pot, a teapot, a creamer, and a covered sugar. The handles of the tea and coffee pots have ivory insulators for protection against heat.

This silver service was a wedding gift to my grandparents who married in January of 1918. Each of the 4 pieces of the silver service is marked with Gorhams early trio of pseudohallmarks (LAG) and STERLING. The coffee pot, sugar bowl, and creamer are also marked with a scimitar, the Gorham date mark for 1917. The teapot is marked with an axe, the Gorham date mark for 1916. The pieces of the service bear the following additional marks. Coffee pot - 2 3/8 PINT; A2441; & D16. Teapot - 2 PINT; A2442; & 135.

Sugar bowl - A2443 & 174; sugar cover - D174 & STERLING. Creamer - 5/8 PINT; A2444; & D34.

The coffee set is monogrammed with a gothic B. It is in pretty good estate condition, although. With the patina of old tarnish and fine scratches to be expected with age and use. The finial on the sugar is slightly crooked and deformed.

The inside rim of the top of the sugar bowl is somewhat misshapen where it fits down into the bowl. One end of the oval base of the teapot is dented.

One of the silver pins holding together the handle of the teapot is damaged; the handle is loose but still fully functional. The silver services price reflects its condition. This coffee & tea service will make a lovely addition to any silver collection. The total weight of the set is 66.04 troy ounces.

The pieces were measured from end of handle or spout to end of handle. Following is a chart of the rough weight and size of each of the 4 pieces.
