High quality sterling silver tea set made by William Bateman, an important and desirable English silversmith from the early 1800's. The set features an elaborate acanthus leaf and scroll design on handles and applied scrolls around the rims. Ornate feet accented with flowers and foliage.
The teapot has a hinged lid with three dimensional floral finial done completely in the round. Each piece is engraved on front side only with armorial although the engraving is faint on tea pot and creamer. TEA POT - measures 5 3/4" high, 10 1/2" wide and 6 deep.
CREAMER - measures 4" high, 9" wide and 5 1/2 deep. SUGAR - measures 4" high, 6 1/2" wide and 4 1/2 deep. The c ombined weight is over 1500 grams. This fabulous and rare set is in excellent Estate condition with no noted damage. Each piece is marked with English hallmarks for "London, Sterling", maker's stamp "WB" for William Bateman and date letter for 1832.
