GERMAN SILVER TEA SET c1890 JOHANN KURZ, HANAU- NEO-CLASSICAL. A rare late 19th century German silver tea set in the Classical taste. From the Hanau work shop of Johann Kurz. A small, specialized work shop, the mark rarely found. Known for fine quality silver, including highly sought after automaton music boxes. Slender tapering ovoid with center shield flanked by winged putto and ribbon on satin.
Fluted column, floral garland beaded trim and anthemion and vine border. Cover retains the original satin surface bud finial. Ribbon crossed sweeping vine highlighted handle. The German silver Classical teapot is 9 1/2 inches and.
Complete set weighs 41 1/2 standard ounces. Rich silver patina, some stubborn tarnish as shown. Maker's marks and post 1886 German 800 guarantee.
