French Sterling Tea Set Cup & Saucer c1840 Martial Fray, Paris
FRENCH STERLING TEA SET c1850 MARTIAL FRAY, PARIS - TEA CUP & SAUCER. A very fine and rare c1850 French (950 pure) sterling and parcel gilt tea cup and matching saucer. From the rarely observed Paris work shop of Martial Fray. The cup in wide panel fluted form turned at rim. Gold wash panels depicting French soldier saying farewell to a small child who is clinging to him.
Another soldier looking skyward, pondering his fate. Alternating with gilt wavy vine framed oval medallion. United by twin vine and flower suspended from rim. Cast leaf and oval accented double scroll handle.
The cup interior completely gold washed. Saucer with conforming figural and foliate parcel gilt design. This fine and very rare c1850 French sterling & parcel gilt tea cup is 4 inches and. The saucer 4 1/2 and the complete set 7 1/2 standard ounces.
