ENGLISH STERLING TEA SET 1881 CELLINI - FAMILY CREST. A fine and very rare Victorian sterling silver three piece tea service.
Based upon original art work from the Renaissance age. From James Dixon in 1871, know for this design. Waldron illustrates a nearly identical pair of Cellini just page 1875, and he notes. These almost always display the finest workmanship and finish detail.This Cellini set in tapering cauldron form. Period engraved raised star fish family crest, flanked by grazing mountain goat. Below classical torsos atop stand, above alternating demon and maiden masks and tear drop fluting. Cover retains the original flower decorated beaded edge bell finial, with original. Collar and panel flower decorated demon mount spout.
Boldly cast tapering caryatid (maiden head and torso) handles. Atop mask and leaf decorated two step base. This rare 1881 British Cellini maiden handle teapot is 10 inches. And the complete set weighs a bit over 52 standard ounces. Handle secure, I had our silversmith replace the original stops.
