Presented is a fabulous American silver plated 7 piece tea set, dating to around the 1890s. This set was made by Barbour Silverplate Co, a division of International Silver. This set features beautifully hand chased decoration with a design of grape vines, clusters, and leaves, all richly detailed and well done.
In keeping with the theme, the finials of the lids, the feet, the spouts, rims, and handles, all have finely cast and applied decoration in the form of grape clusters and leaves. This is a very handsome and versatile set, with three different sizes/types of pot as well as a kettle on stand with burner. Kettle on stand-14 1/8 inches tall incl. Capacity of 11 cups (88 fluid ounces/2.6 liters). Capacity of 5 1/2 cups (44 fluid ounces/1.3 liters).
Shorter teapot/coffee pot-8 3/4 inches tall. Demitasse/coffee pot--10 1/4 inches tall. Capacity of 4 cups (32 fluid ounces/950 milliliters). Sugar bowl-7 1/2 inches tall, measures 7 inches from handle to handle.
Waste bowl-3 inches tall, 4 1/4 inches in diameter. This set is in great overall condition. The handle of the spigot on the kettle on stand is missing its insulator, but this could easily be replaced as the central piece unscrews. The burner of the kettle on stand is original and functional, but the cap is bent out of round and may be a replacement. The bottom interior of the waste bowl has some minor wear to the silver plating. The interiors of all pieces are clean and ready for use. There are no splits, no breaks, no leaks, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. Each piece is marked on the underside for Barbour Silver Plate Co (a division of International Silver), as well as Hand Chased and the number 5336.
