Antique, Early Victorian, Five Piece Tea Set designed by the Poole Silver Company founded in Taunton, Massachusetts in 1893. High quality of its commissioned pieces, Poole also created. The four pieces include the matching, classic. Butler's tray that combines chasing and embossing with the pattern visible on the reverse side. At the center of the tray is an oval -- approximately 5.25" x 3.5" -- a. Perfect place to engrave initials, a message, or a date.

The tray's edge as well as its two handles have a deep, in-relief floral and scroll pattern. The large handles allow one to carry weight with little effort. Four graceful feet match those on the coffee, tea, sugar and creamer.

The coffee and teapot handles have special protective rings that prevent too much heat absorption from liquid contents, thereby keeping the pieces safe to handle at all times. Poole never established a code to date its silver; however, the design and pattern of a piece can establish the year. The pattern on the five piece set is one of the Poole Company's earliest: the 140 sequential pattern of 140-141-142-143. The sugar and coffee are 143; the tea is 141, the creamer 142, and the tray 140.
