ANTIQUE 1794 A Pattern REED AND BARTON Ornate Melon 5pc TEA SET. 1850-1870
ANTIQUE "1794 A" REED AND BARTON and WINTHROP 5pc TEA SET. Antique Reed & Barton "Winthrop" #1794 A pattern tea set. This beautiful Winthrop, melon style tea set was chased and crafted by hand.
A very time consuming process that Reed & Barton were known for. Soon after, they shifted to mass-production techniques in order to keep up with the competition. Reed & Barton itself dates to 1840 when electroplating was patented in England. When the company was manufacturing pewter ware, you will notice the pewter made lid finial. The makers of this decorative pot, added the hand chased vines and leaves giving the impression of a pumpkin sitting in a patch to the viewer.
