Fantastic silver plated three-piece coffee/ tea set in the Anglo-Indian Colonial Raj design. Inspired by The Indian Pavilion at the 1888 International Exhibition in Glasgow.

Each piece is embossed with the twelves signs of the Zodiac running around the central band; the pieces are further engraved and bright-cut with scrolling foliage. The sugar bowl and milk jug are gold-washed inside; the set is joined by large sugar tongs with bird claw grips. The Indian Pavilion at the 1888 International Exhibition in Glasgow, Scotland sparked Britain's interest in all things Indian. Designers adapted the Indian style for the British palate, known as Anglo-Indian design, which this tea set demonstrates.

The teapot's angled handle and curved spout recall Indian examples, while the basic profile of the pieces remain traditionally Western. Made by the Briddon Brothers, Sheffield, c. Teapot - 18.5 cm tall, 23 cm spout to handle, 13 cm wide.

Sugar bowl - 9.8 cm tall, 11 cm diameter. Milk jug / creamer - 8.5 cm tall, 13 cm spout to handle, 8 cm wide. Sugar tongs / nips - 15 cm.

Some very light wear to silvering; sugar bowl and milk jug a bit uneven in shape; shallow depression near the base of the sugar bowl.
