Vintage Puritan Chased 5 Piece Puritan Chased Sterling Silver Tea Set: Gorham fabricated this pattern in hollowware both with and without chasing. The sets without chasing are absolutely plain as the pattern name "Puritan" implies. They have no surface embellishment and the only decorative elements to enhance the attractive shapes are the lid finials and scroll-work handles. In contrast, the beautiful hand chased pieces have a Jacobean inspired motif that is continuous around all body surfaces. It is evidence of the added hours of skilled craftsmanship involved in their creation, which set them apart from the un-chased and was reflected in a much higher cost when new.

Thus the chasing did and does add considerably to the value of the set, not to mention its artistic beauty. Provenance: This set dates to 1969 and has been the property of a sole owner continuously.
