SCOTTISH STERLING TEA SET 1881 JAMES REID - ZODIAC. A fine and rare Scottish Victorian sterling silver three piece tea service. In the Indian taste, depicting signs of the Zodiac.

The design is very rare in Victorian silver. In unique tapering barrel form.

Adorned with a series of costumed figures in various dance, theater and difficult to explain postures. Embracing a goat to chest, riding an elephant headed dog, stag crown and whip, jester's nose.

, and even a demon sort of figure, with horns and wings. Set within Indian inspired leaf and interwoven vine, with bird and figure in frame accents. Cover retains the original, hallmarked Indian pavilion finial with original fastener. Arabesque decorated handle and V mount spout.

This rare 1881 Scottish sterling Zodiac teapot is 9 1/2 inches. And the set weighs 45 standard ounces. Interior of the teapot clean as if little used. Rich sterling patina, retains original detail.
