JAPANESE STERLING TEA SET TRAY c1890 ARTHUR & BOND, YOKOHAMA A very fine and rare late Meiji Japanese sterling silver & rosewood tray for serving afternoon tea. From one of the most important silver work shops in Meiji Japan Arthur & Bond. The English owned firm opened in Yokohama in the late 19th century and catered to western diplomats, dignitaries and business men.The tray in long slender rectangular form. A wide band of hand hammered sterling silver with hand decorated cherry blossom flower and leaf frames the original rosewood center. Applied sterling Gothic D framed in conforming cherry blossom wreath for the original owner. The tray is 27 1/2 inches long and 10 wide.
Rich sterling patina and original detail to the floral border. The rose wood center with mild, surface wear barely noted. Wood center with some movement in frame, but stable.
