Fine J. E. Caldwell Sterling Silver 6-piece Tea/coffee Set English Sterling
Fine sterling silver six piece tea/coffee set with hand engraving and bright cut work decoration above a shallow relief arabesque decorated band around the center of the body, and all pieces on a round step-molded foot, and the tall coffee pot and two tea pots with insulators in the handles and hinged lids, and the sugar bowl with removable lid. The set weighs a total of 120.05 troy ounces. The coffee pot measures approximately 10 1/2 inches high to top of finial and 4 1/8 inches in diameter at the base and approximately 8 inches across from spout tip to outside handle end. The two tea pots measure 8 inches high to top of finial and 4 1/8 inches in diameter at the base and approximately 8 3/4 inches across from spout tip to handle end. The sugar bowl measures 6 3/4 inches high to top of finial and 3 3/4 inches in diameter at the base and approximately 7 inches across from handle end to handle end.
The waste bowl measures 4 1/2 inches high and 3 5/8 inches in diameter at the base and 4 1/2 inches in diameter at the opening. The creamer measures 5 3/4 inches to top of handle and 3 inches in diameter at the base and 4 3/4 inches across from spout tip to handle end. All pieces are marked on the base J. There are shallow 1/4 to 1/2 inch dings on all the bodies below the band and some rippling on the round bases, a 1/2 inch shallow ding on the upper part of the coffee pot and one tiny pinpoint ding there.
The creamer spout has a bend and slight crease to the right side and the foot is notably compressed just above the step molding. Each of the pots has some similar slight compression to the foot stem, and all the finials are slightly bent to the side and a bit depressed into the lld doming, otherwise in good antique condition. This set will work beautifully just as it is, but deserves a loving home and a bit of conservatively applied silversmithing dent work.
